Sneack peek of the Metallica classic album series
Sound Quality:
This album really has defined itself very well through the years. After attaining diamond status for selling more than 10 million units, the album gets a new dimension added to it. The mix really adds quite a bit to each song. The only real complaint I have personally is the way the solo floats around in 'Enter Sandman'. I wouldn't have personally done it that way, but then who asked me? Other than that little thing, the rest of the album really packs a punch. From the power vocals on 'Holier than thou' with the cool echo sound to the brilliant orchestral parts in 'Nothing else matters', this album will please most. Listening to it, you instantly pick up on the clarity of the mix. Background vocals coming at you from the rear and things like that. This album sounds incredible in advanced resolution sound.
Overall:
I really don't even have to mention how damn cool this album is. you already know. The mix however is worthy of mention. With that little exception I mentioned, this album is a must have. It's a minor complaint when you hear a few of the other new things that add to the complete picture of this disc. The sneak peak included gives you enough to wet your appetite for the dvd video version of the classic album series. I think this album should do well for the format. It's without a doubt a classic and a must own!

You know, this is where I think dvd-audio could get really cool. Being engulfed in the sound of a live recording should make it almost like being there, right? Well, almost. The only thing missing is the usually jerk-off who has to make his presence known but ruining the next guys experience. As far as the disc though, it hits the mark. The music is concentrated in the front of the room with the typical echo sounds going to the surrounds which gives you that large concert hall effect. The crowd noise is all around the room and sounds great in the surrounds to give you that middle of the crowd feel. Now as far as Blue Oyster Cult goes, these guys are one of my all time favorites bands as they were one of the first I heard back in the days of my early exposure to rock and metal. I think the track listing is definitely decent. There are 13 total, so you won't get them all which I'm sure is a no brainer. A good mix overall from Silverline.
Overall
As far as concert recordings go, I think dvd-audio will add the missing dimension through it's multi-channel sound. This record is a good example of what it is. Silverline gives us a nice balanced mix that is reminiscent of the recent live dvd video by this band. The live performance of 'Cities on flame' was taken from the same titled dvd that came out in 2002. I would definitely love to see 'Extraterrestial Live' revisited in surround, but this one will keep me plenty happy for the time being!
